Many member chapters and individuals of Starfleet Task Force 31 have chosen to participate in a variety of charity and community service projects. It’s not a requirement to do so as a part of being a member of a STF31 chapter. It is an individual’s decision, and the following are just a few examples of how we give back to our communities:
U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
The principal Toys for Tots activity which takes place each year is the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located in communities without a Reserve Unit, the campaign can be conducted by a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toys and monetary donations.
Angel Tree Project
Angel tree gives individuals and partnering corporations an opportunity to adopt less fortunate children and senior citizens and provide personalized gifts and necessities to those who would otherwise receive very little or nothing during the holiday season.
Labels For Education
Labels for Education a fun and easy program where families and members of the community work together to “Earn Free Stuff” for their school! By collecting UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from over 2,500 participating products, supplementing your earnings through the eLabels for Education program and with our bonus offers, your school earns points that can be redeemed for Arts, Athletics, and Academics merchandise.
Military Overseas Care Packages
Care packages are our only means of sending the comforts of home to our loved ones putting their blood, sweat and tears into our freedom and receiving a care package from home can be a real morale booster for a deployed service member. Each month members will collect items such as candy, reading materials and toiletries to name just a few and we send them to service men and women who are currently serving overseas.
Recycling
Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community and the environment. This includes things like plastic, glass, cardboard, paper, aluminum cans, printer cartridges and toner just to name a few.
