The Captain and Crew of the USS Helen Pawlowski NCC-8494 welcome you to our chapters home on the world wide web.
The USS Helen Pawlowski NCC-8494 is a chapter-member of STARFLEET TASK FORCE 31 based in Warwick, Rhode Island.
For over the past 6 years, STARFLEET TASK FORCE 31 has provided Star Trek fans a way to meet each other, make friends, have fun, give back to their communities, and show that the dream of Gene Roddenberry can live long and prosper. On the local level, members can gather with other fans for a variety of enjoyable activities. On the national level, STARFLEET TASK FORCE 31 offers our members a wealth of resources that you won’t find in many of the other Star Trek fan clubs. In addition to a great set of membership materials and our quarterly newsletter, and as we grow, we hope to build our own Starfleet Academy and to expand on our MACO Program.
Task Force 31 Chapters are grouped into Sectors, each Sector covering a different geographical area. These sectors will often hold gatherings where crews of many Chapters get together for conferences, parties, charity events, and a whole range of other activities.
Task Force 31 is currently divided into 24 local Chapters, each named as a different starship or space station. Chapters are where the members of Task Force 31 get together locally to make friends, meet, and have a fun time. Our many Chapters are spread out across the United States.
STARFLEET Chapters range in size from 5 members to several dozen. Some get together and meet in person while others are correspondence Chapters where members who live far away from each other can still exchange messages via e-mail, telephone, and even good, old-fashioned postal mail.
The USS Helen Pawlowski launched as the Space Station Troubadour on May 16, 1995, in Saint Louis, MO and in 2014 the chapter was renamed after the passing of Helen Pawlowski, the founding member and longtime commanding officer of the chapter.
The ships fictional timeline is set in the Trek calendar year of 2287. To help you understand the timeline, the Star Trek: III movie takes place in the Trek calendar year 2285 and the Star Trek: VI movie takes place in the Trek calendar year 2293.
Originally inspired by “Star Trek”, the USS Helen Pawlowski is a science fiction and fantasy fan club that embraces many forms of science fiction from Star Trek’s Captain James Kirk, Luke Skywalker and even Doctor Who. The USS Helen Pawlowski also participates in numerous activities that includes, but not limited to: chapter cookouts, movie outings, holiday parties, trips to local areas of interests such as the Battleship Massachusetts, RI Zoo, and Ft Adams and let’s not forget conventions.
When a crewmember is assigned to the USS Helen Pawlowski, the crewmember will choose a department of assignment from one of the ten-chapter departments:

Many of our crewmembers are dedicated to making the world a better place. Not all members participate in our community service projects. To understand further, let’s beam down for a moment to Afghanistan, where U.S. Soldiers have received care packages from the USS Helen Pawlowski crew. Back in Rhode Island, we’ve collected Labels for Education and during the holidays we collect donations for the areas Toys for Tots campaign and the Angel Tree Project. We’ve also participated in food can drives and recycling.
That’s just an example of how our community service is actually a global service and because of our efforts to embrace the ideals of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, we’re doing our part to meet his vision of a better world.
To see what we do, check out our newsletter, THE GUARDIAN on our library page.
