History- USS Excalibur

The USS EXCALIBUR NX-26517 was launched on 201602.19 and has just begun her nine month trials as a chapter of STARFLEET with the Station Robert De Bruce as her support chapter.

The name Excalibur or Caliburn is the legendary sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain.

With several months behind us, the South Eastern United States was hit by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016. The storm caused great damage and in that damage several chapter members were hit hard. But one of those members was the chapter XO who actually lost his home and had to be rescued from a local volunteer fire department because of rising floods waters. While no serious injuries were reported, The XO had to reset his priorities and Lieutenant Commander Alex King took a leave of absence and resigned as the First Officer. At that time, the Commanding Officer Ken Coots appointed Lieutenant Charles Phillips Jr as the Acting First Officer and the chapter home base moved to Washington, NC.

After a couple of months Lieutenant Charles Phillips was made the permanent First Officer and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. Also during this time the chapter picked up a couple new crewmembers.

On 201701.01 the USS Excalibur was officially commissioned by STARFLEET as the USS Excalibur NCC-26517.

The USS Excalibur continued to operate until March 2018 when the chapter decided to decommission.

In July 2020, LCDR Michael McCarthy decided to bring the USS Excalibur out of mothball and recruited past and new members to join as her crew. The USS Excalibur rejoined the rank of chapters in STARFLEET and also Task Force 31.

In August 2021, the crew of the USS Excalibur received bad news that Captain Michael McCarthy unexpectedly passed away. The First Officer, Captain Heather Fike assumed command of the USS Excalibur and over the following year relations became uneasy with STARFLEET as information was deliberately kept from its membership about mis-used STARFLEET funds, the failure to completed mandated tax forms for 3+ years, and the list goes on, and the chapter officially left STARFLEET but continued to remain as a chapter of Task Force 31.
